Garage Door Cable Repair

Release the Tension in the Spring
Use winding bars to slowly unwind the torsion spring. This is the most dangerous part. If you’re unsure, stop and call a pro.
Remove the Old Cable
Loosen the set screws on the cable drum. Pull out the old, frayed, or broken cable.
Install the New Cable
Hook the new cable to the bottom bracket on the door. Run it up the door track and around the cable drum.

Test the Door
Remove the clamps or locking pliers. Plug in the opener. Manually lift the door halfway. It should stay balanced if the tension is right.
